Certification changes effective August 26, 2011
RETIREE RENEWAL: (Effective July 1, 2005)
This is not a change, but it is very important. Retirees are responsible for professional development for all years worked during the renewal cycle. If someone retires in 2012 and their renewal date will be 2015, this person will need two years of professional development to enter before the 2015 renewal will be allowed and so on.
SUBSTITUTE certificate holders may teach unlimited days in a school district, (every day of the school year) but not longer than 90 days for one teacher. Certified teachers may substitute teach no more than 120 days for one teacher beginning January 1, 2012.
SUBSTITUTES may be used for 30 days in a classroom without a teacher of record; district must notify the ROE within 5 days.
Effective July 1, 2013: OBTAINING A SUBSTITUTE CERTIFICATE WHEN A PROFESSIONAL EDUCATOR CERTIFICATE CANNOT BE RENEWED
An educator will not be able to get a substitute certificate if he or she has failed to meet professional development requirements for renewal any time in the past.
FEE STRUCTURE BEGINNING JANUARY 1, 2012
Endorsement application fee will increase to $50.
Certificate application fee will increase to $75.
Renewal/Registration fee will increase to $10 per year on January 1, 2012
